International media company announces top operators adding the new content brand to packages
London, UK, 14 December 2017 – Viasat World, a leading international media company, today launches Epic Drama – which is set to become its biggest ever channel and SVoD launch across its key countries and territories. Testament to the close relationships that Viasat World has built with its valued and trusted operator partners, the majority - including, Cyfrowy Polsat in Poland; RCS in Romania; DIGI in Hungary; Slovak Telecom in Slovakia and United Group in Serbia, Slovenia, Montenegro, Macedonia and Bosnia - will distribute the bold and lavish new channel and SVoD proposition on their platforms from today, with nc+ in Poland launching on 1 January 2018.
Irina Gofman, President and CEO at Viasat World, comments: “We are delighted to see the majority of our key operator partners adding Epic Drama to the mix – proof of our commitment to understanding the needs of our clients, and our shared goal of delivering relevant content to audiences. We are confident that Epic Drama’s differentiated proposition will truly make it stand out from the crowd and succeed – giving people access to world-class, acclaimed drama content 24/7, when and where they want it. The launch is indicative of our agility, as an independent broadcaster, to respond to what viewers and partners are looking for, alongside our ambition to grow our overall reach and audience.”
Launching today in Viasat World’s key international markets, Epic Drama will stage over 600 hours of the very best period drama series curated from around the world. The new home of big-budget, HD period drama series is available on both a linear and SVoD basis, supporting the company’s mission to provide audiences great content across multiple platforms and devices. Plus, most of the programming is of-the-moment, produced within the last three years, with a significant volume exclusive to each market.
Epic Drama sees Viasat World harnessing its content curation expertise, using its experience in the genre to grow its operations in other key markets. In recent weeks, a world-class launch slate of programming acquired from top global content distribution partners has been unveiled – with more than two thirds of the programming originating in the UK and Europe, complemented by stand-out series produced in the US, Canada and Australia. Acclaimed titles such as Harlots, Mr Selfridge and Poldark from ITV Studios Global Entertainment; The Miniaturist from all3media international; The Restaurant and Versailles from Banijay Rights; Borgia, Copper and A Letter for Evita from Beta Film and Turn and Klondike from Entertainment One (eOne) will be available either first run or exclusively on the platform.
Epic Drama is aimed at men and women aged 25+; however, it will have broad appeal to all drama fans – giving them 24/7 access to acclaimed and compelling series across a varied mix of sub-genres, including crime and mystery, classic literary, politics and power, war, action adventure, real history and fantasy. The launch of Viasat World’s 19th content brand is grounded in significant research which identified an untapped, passionate audience for the genre, and a clear gap in the market for curated content of this kind.
Viasat World continues to negotiate deals with other operator partners with the aim of further extending the reach of its lavish new flagship content brand.
