Warsaw, Poland, 8 October 2019 – Following the acquisition of the Central & Eastern European rights for internationally-acclaimed WWII drama series World on Fire, from global distribution partner ITV Studios Global Entertainment, Epic Drama hosted an exclusive, star-studded premiere event on 3rd October. Members of the cast and crew including Polish actors Zofia Wichlacz, Tomasz Kot and Borys Szyc, and British actors, Julia Brown and Jonah Hauer-King, alongside executive producers Helen Ziegler and Damien Timmer, came together at the iconic cultural centre Koneser, in Warsaw’s Praga district, to mark the forthcoming 10th November series premiere on the channel.
Media flew in from across the Central and Eastern Europe region, joining Polish press and cable operators for an unforgettable introduction to the epic period drama series by multi-award-winning writer Peter Bowker. The press day programme featured one-to-one interviews with World on Fire cast and crew and exclusive premiere screenings of episode one, ahead of an exclusive Q&A panel hosted by Polish journalist and TV personality, Marcin Cejrowski, and a 1930’s themed party in the evening.
Guests arriving for the Q&A and party walked the Epic Drama branded ‘purple carpet’, where cast members gathered for a photo call and were interviewed by popular Polish journalist, TV and radio presenter Odeta Moro on their favourite moments on the set. Both the Q&A panel hosted by Marcin and interviews on the purple carpet with Odeta were live streamed on Epic Drama’s Polish Facebook profile in a first for the channel, reaching an audience of over 160,000 in total.
Karin Heijink, Vice President of Pay TV Channels and Products at Viasat World, comments: “We are thrilled that Epic Drama will be the stage for World on Fire across CEE; our investment in this major series signals our continued commitment to fuelling the pipeline for the channel with the very best of global drama. The channel has fast become the home of premium drama programming for the region, and having witnessed the success of multi-lingual and multi-location stories on our channel before, we know that Epic Drama viewers will immerse themselves in the characters, as well as the emotion and adrenaline of it all when it hits TV screens next month. Our launch here in Warsaw – a place so central to World on Fire’s narrative – was the perfect way to welcome the series as one of the many highlights on the channel in the months ahead.”
Filmed in locations throughout Europe, including Poland, France, Germany and the UK, World on Fire tells the story of WWII through the lives of ordinary people from all sides of the global conflict.
